It was on my 13th birthday when I received my first 35mm camera that my life as a photographer began. As far back as I can remember I've always had a huge interest in photography and music. So it only made sense that I start working in the music industry. Breaking into the music industry was no small task, but it helped that my sister was an up and coming Detroit Rock Radio DJ. It provided me with the opportunity to get into concerts, gain access backstage, to network with bands, managers, record reps, and other rock photographers. I remember the first time meeting famous rock photographer (The Late) Ross Marino. He had this pass around his neck that said " PHOTO – All Access". I said " Hey Ross…How do I get one of those?" and his reply with a smirk was "You have to have a magazine assignment kid..!!". So I walked away determined that one day I would wear the Pass of a Rock Photographer.

Unlike today, back in the 1980's most concert venues allowed cameras. So at least I could get in with my camera with hopes of getting some decent shots to show off. I had high hopes of one day getting good enough photos to land an assignment and be able to shoot up in front of the stage with the pros. So 4 years into it, I finally landed a job with one of the local Detroit newspapers, which provided me with the credentials to get Photo Passes. This was it !… I was in !…. This got me access to shoot all the rock stars of the day including David Bowie, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, KISS, Def Leppard, INXS. BY 1987, shooting music on a regular basis. I had the chance to photograph a new up and coming rock band called Tesla. Impressed with my work, Tesla invited me to come out on the road with them to shoot photos for some of their merchandise, including my first poster. Also it gave me a chance to get exclusive pics of them, which all the rock magazines wanted. Being on the road with them led to me getting a chance to tour with other bands, including speed metal band Testament. I spent most of 1988,89,90, and 91 traveling all over the world jumping between tours with Tesla, Testament, and Metallica. By this time I had been published in many rock magazines including Rolling Stone, RIP, Kerrang, Burnn, Metal Hammer and have been published in tour books, music books, and cd booklets.
